Recently I had a bike accident which caused right hand shoulder injury.
Next day I visited one of the new generation hospital in Kannur. To avoid the conflicts, I keep the name of hospital not revealed in this post. But this is a new hospital within city limits with ample parking space. For a Ortho Surgeon, their charge is 250/-. The doctor just asked to do an Xray and found no issue with bones. It took just 5 minutes of examination overall to ask my issue and see the xray report later. He said to come back if pain continues. He also recommended MRI if pain continues.
I went back again after 2 weeks since pain was not reducing. Another token with 250/- and similar ortho surgeon asked for MRI as next step. MRI was available in private clinic and it costed 5000 Rs. The MRI also showed few issues only. Doctor again gave few pain relievers. Both appointments doctor might have taken just 2 to 3 minutes average(For Rs 250/). The doctor did not even see the MRI films. He just saw the summary sheet.
Later on pain was not reducing much so one of my friend recommended a senior doctor (I cannot mention his name here to save his privacy). This doctor works in some other hospital but part time clinic is functioning in Melechovva. The doctor has to be booked by calling Uthradam clinic Melechovva.
Little away from Melechovva junction towards Kannur (Near Dharma Samajam School). There is a huge queue. I had called at 8 AM and booked doctor. He wil be available in evening time (probably 3.30 PM onwards). The doctor took around 20 Minutes to see my issues. He made me do some simple movements and understood exactly whats the issue without seeing any Xray or MRI report. Then he asked why did i go for MRI in first stage. He was unhappy with the new generation techniques of making people do more scans to make more money. He made me understand the issue in simple terms and asked how to avoid pain and get relieved quickly. His medicines were simple.
Needless to say, doctors analysis and out come by just my hand movements were exactly matching within the MRI results when he checked reports later. Doctor saw all MRI films and showed me each film were I have issues.
This doctor spent average 20 to 30 minutes for a patient for thorough examination.
Is the new generation hospitals bad in Kannur?
My personal experience with same new gen hospital is , lower experienced doctors (MBBS) are good and taking care trying to examine patient thoroughly instead of making patients for business. If the doctor is a senior person with more degrees he asks for more tests and make more money for hospitals.
Summary
When the city develops ,we will have costly health facilities. Its a sad fact!
