Kannur traffic improvements

When ever i did a 'kannur traffic' search in Google, I found thick red lines as in below image.

We know, always the line between taliparamba and Kannur city is jammed. Same is the case with the line between Tazhe chovva and Kannur. Now we are going to get our new airport in a year. The situation going to worsen, when we have all the new things. Are we planning well considering the increase in vehicles?

Why the traffic congestion?

There are so many vehicles getting registered day by day. But the roads and bridges remains the same. It is not easy to develop the roads quickly in a densely populated state like Kerala.

Any hopes?
At present there are some developments happening with help of World Bank at Thalasseri Valav para portion(53.14 km) of the Thalassery-Kodagu road, under the Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP) Phase 2, which will ease the traffic between thalassery and Kootupuzha border. This is going to be one of the best route for Coorg travelers to Kannur Airport.

The Rs.230-crore Thalasseri - Valav para road project for upgrading includes improvement of gradient, widening and strengthening of the road; i.e. tarred road would have a width of 10 metres, 50 bus bays would be built as per plan; There are other reconstruction of seven bridges(Iritty, Eranholi, Neruvambai, Karetta, Kalarode, Uliyil and Koottupuzha) happening parallel to the road work. As of now the road has big curves, but the road curves at Punnad, Keezhur and Iritty would also be reduced and straightened as per plans.

Other KSTP project, 21-km Pappinissery-Pilathara stretch will also be started & completed soon. The project, estimated at Rs.180 crore, includes construction of two railway over-bridges at Thavam and Pappinissery.

NHAI (National Highway Authority) also started the Thalassery-Mahe bypass(17.8km) from Muzhappilangad to Azhiyoor with 45-metre width. This will ease the congestion of Kannur Kozhikode road.

Reducing the Kannur City Congestion.

There are many roads around city, which is not easy to develop due to the dense habitat. At present government is working to develop such roads.

Tazhe chovva to Kannur stretch roads like Tayatheru roads, Thana roads development can improve the city traffic to a considerable level.

Update: Upcoming NH projects connecting Kannur to other parts are a huge hope for Kannurites.
